5D Theater Opened today in coimbatore :

        COIMBATORE: Coimbatore's first 5D theater will start functioning at Brookefields Mall on Friday by promising a virtual reality of wonders through motion and environmental effects. Targeting mainly children, the theater promises entertainment better than 3D which offers mainly sophisticated visual effects.

Titled Pix 5D Cinema, the theater reaches Coimbatore after winning substantial fan following in Chennai. The facility has been available at Express Mall in Chennai for quite some time. It would be a wonder in sequences,'' said Ravee Shankarr, director of Pix 5D Cinema. 

        Each show would last 10 to 12 minutes and during this short duration, the viewers would be taken to another world. If it is raining in the film, the audience would feel wet. If characters in the film travel in flight, the audience will feel like they are travelling too," he said. Just like an airplane journey, it is compulsory for viewers to fasten their seatbelts before seeing the film.

     The basic characteristic of 5D is that while 3D offers just visual effects, 5D offers virtual reality through motion and environmental effects, making the viewer feel like they're a part of the entire sequence,'' explains Shankarr. The viewer sits on a specially designed seat and is provided with 3D glass. The experience then begins with a slight shake as a rollercoaster starts its tumultuous journey through the rails. 

      Sitting on the chair, the viewer would be moved up, down, left and right. Pix 5D Cinema has a capacity of 32 seats and a collection of 10 movies that have now been launched in the 5D format. "Our seats have a numatic technology through which you get three degrees of freedom (most other 4D theatres have only two degrees or so). This allows for movements in all directions in sync with the movie," says Shankarr.

It's not just the seats that make the movie come alive, there is artificial snow and smoke screens and 3D bugs, spiders, scorpions, waterfalls and boulders that hamper your vision, threaten to sting you, follow you around and throw you off course. And just as the ride ends and the roller coaster comes to a screeching halt, you realise you are still holding on tight.
 
   "This sort of entertainment is still in its nascent stages in South India. We visited similar facilities all over the country and abroad and looked at how we could add a new dimension. The feedback has been great so far,'' he said. Actor Arun Vijay Kumar will open the theater at 12 noon on Friday.

Tamil Nadu: The anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) protesters may attempt to hold demonstrations and lay siege to Tuticorin port and government offices on Saturday. They had on Friday threatened to stop all activities at the port. The protest will be led by activist SP Udayakumar, according to media reports.

Shipping minister GK Vasan had on Friday urged the anti-nuclear plant activists at Kudankulam to desist from stalling activity at the VOC Port (formerly Tuticorin port).

The Kudankulam nuclear power plant has not yet been made operational. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has begun loading enriched uranium fuel rods in the first reactor of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) in Tamil Nadu following a nod from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).

India's atomic energy regulator on Friday said it has given its nod to Nuclear Power Corporation Ltd (NPCIL) to load enriched uranium fuel rods in the first reactor at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tamil Nadu.

"We have given the nod to NPCIL to load the fuel at KNPP on Tuesday. NPCIL has completed the stipulations that we had earlier laid in our Aug 10 sanction to load the fuel," Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) chairman SS Bajaj said from Vienna, where he is attending the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conference.

According to him, it would take around 8-10 days for NPCIL to complete the fuel loading process.

"NPCIL has fulfilled all the conditions that had been laid by us," Bajaj said. 

The NCPIL, the country's atomic power plant operator, is in the process of loading the 163 enriched uranium fuel rods in the first reactor at KNPP from Wednesday, sources told IANS.

Senior NPCIL officials were however not available to comment on the issue.

The People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), in a statement on Friday, demanded NPCIL stop the fuelling process immediately.

NPCIL is setting up the KNPP at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district, around 650 km from Chennai with two Russian-made VVER 1,000 MW reactors.

After the reactor is fuelled, activities to approach first criticality-starting fission chain reaction, for the first time in a reactor, will be taken up. 

Then the power generation will be gradually scaled up on AERB's permission, based on the results of various studies.

Observers from IAEA are expected at KNPP as the reactors fall under the safeguard agreement.

The KNPP is an outcome of the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) signed between India and the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1988. However, the project construction only began in 2001

Tamilnadu and Karnadaka Going  to deal Cauvery River River Problem in Supreme Court.

    Karnataka/Tamilnadu: Karnataka has decided to await Prime Minister Manmohan's response to the review petition filed by the state before the Cauvery River Authority, expressing its inability to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for a fortnight, even as Tamil Nadu is gearing up to fight the issue in the Supreme Court next week.

"The ball is in Prime Minister's court in his capacity as chairman of the Cauvery River Authority," sources in the Karnataka government told TOI. Though chief minister Jagadish Shettar has taken a decision not to release water to Tamil Nadu, some farmers of Mandya district, where river Cauvery is the lifeline, are also bracing up to file a petition. Meanwhile, external affairs minister S M Krishna had on Friday asked Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to sit across the table and evolve an amicably acceptable formula on sharing Cauvery river water. 

Krishna wanted Karnataka to explore whether it could ensure 4,500 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu at Biligundlu gauging station (interstate border) till October 15 and the remaining 4,500 cusecs would automatically flow from the seepage. "Such a decision would be in the interest of both the states," he said in a statement. The rainfall in the catchment areas of Kabini reservoir, which lies in Wayanad region in Kerala, has helped receive good inflows, but the state has been discharging only 700 cusecs from this reservoir since Friday. Tamil Nadu government sources said the water will not reach Mettur at all.

Meanwhile, sources in the Tamil Nadu government said the state would fight Karnataka's review petition in the court, "since it's only a ploy to buy time."

When Tamil Nadu moves the court again, possibly on Monday, one of the prayers would be to seek a direction to Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water as awarded by the Prime Minister. "Though our original prayer is to have 2tmcft a day for the next 24 days, we'll also seek 9,000 cusecs at the earliest, since that is the CRA's direction," said a senior official. The delay in release of Cauvery water could affect the long-term samba crop, fear farmers.
